Memorial Trees: A Legacy for Those We Love Most

A memorial tree is a meaningful way to celebrate the life of your loved one by creating shade and color for many years to come. The most commonly used memorial trees are the dogwood (Cornus florida), oak (Quercus robur), or maple (Acer rubrum), which are all durable, attractive, and symbolically meaningful.

Memorial Tree's are Easy to Plant and Maintain

Memorial trees are relatively easy to plant and require little care, which is ideal for creating an unforgettable gift. They grow well on different soils and need little care other than periodic watering during dry times and light pruning for proper development.

Seasonal Blooms and Foliage of Memorial Trees

Memory trees can vary significantly in seasonal aesthetics depending on the tree type. Dogwoods, for example, have magnificent white or pink flowers in the spring, and maples produce lush green leaves in summer that turn to intense reds or golds in fall. Oaks deliver long-lasting greens in the warmer months and rich browns in the fall. Each tree makes any memorial space feel enchanting and individual throughout the year.

Shape, Lifespan, and Symbolism

Memorial trees come in all sizes — from the spread of an oak canopy to the graceful branches of a dogwood. Most species have been immortal for decades, leaving a lasting mark. Because they are symbolic of power, transformation, and perseverance, they are an excellent option for celebrating individuals.

This Is How Your Plants Will Look upon Delivery

Bare Root Plants
Plant bare root trees during the dormant season in early spring or late fall (November through April). Dig the hole twice as wide as the roots so the soil is well-drained. Position the tree so the root flare is at or just above ground level. Fill the hole back with the soil you dug from and water. Maintain soil moisture, especially in the tree's early years, by providing deep, regular watering. Apply a 2-4 inch mulch away from the trunk at the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune trees during the first few seasons to establish strength and resilience, remove damaged branches, and continue maintenance pruning as the tree matures. Regularly inspect for pests and diseases and apply integrated pest management practices. Protect young trees from mechanical damage and extreme temperatures with tree guards, and stake them if necessary for support, removing the stakes after one or two years.
