Lombardy Poplars are quick to grow and plant, making them a favorite among homeowners requiring a rapid yield. These robust trees can withstand most soils and require little care. Regular watering during establishment and occasionally trimming dead branches keep it healthy and vigorous.

Seasonal Changes and Foliage of Populua Nigra

The Lombardy Poplar grows green, leafy foliage in the spring and summer to form a dense, showy canopy. And in the fall, its leaves turn golden-yellow, bringing seasonal interest to your garden. Although the tree will bloom with tiny and subtle flowers in early spring, its most prized qualities are its vivid foliage and upright appearance.

Shape and Longevity of Lombard Poplar Trees

The tree’s traditional columnar form makes it a suitable specimen for a small yard or as a formal fence. It makes a bold vertical statement from as high as 50 feet up to about 10-15 feet wide. Lombardy Poplars are not as resistant to disease as some trees but can last 15 to 30 years, making them ideal for quick, effective landscaping.

This Is How Your Plants Will Look upon Delivery

Bare Root Plants
Plant bare root trees during the dormant season in early spring or late fall (November through April). Dig the hole twice as wide as the roots so the soil is well-drained. Position the tree so the root flare is at or just above ground level. Fill the hole back with the soil you dug from and water. Maintain soil moisture, especially in the tree's early years, by providing deep, regular watering. Apply a 2-4 inch mulch away from the trunk at the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune trees during the first few seasons to establish strength and resilience, remove damaged branches, and continue maintenance pruning as the tree matures. Regularly inspect for pests and diseases and apply integrated pest management practices. Protect young trees from mechanical damage and extreme temperatures with tree guards, and stake them if necessary for support, removing the stakes after one or two years.
