Bellflowers are a beautiful plant that will add elegance to any garden. They bloom in the garden and wildflower fields in bell-shaped blue, purple, white, and pink blossoms. Their nodding flowers add movement and style, spilling over rock walls or between higher perennials. They are adaptable plants that look good anywhere from formal beds to sloping cottage gardens. Their color and complicated shapes offer a visual anchor to other plants and are a popular choice among gardeners and landscape architects.

What is the Advantages of Bellflower Planting In Your Garden

Bellflowers are not just pretty but very healthy. They bloom from late spring through fall; you'll still have fresh blooms for months. Bellflowers are perennial and adaptable and will do well in various climates and soils, so they're a great choice for both experienced and new gardeners. They beckon pollinators like bees and butterflies, maintaining a healthier ecosystem and giving movement to your garden.

The second plus point is that they are very easy to maintain. Once established, you don't have to tend them much besides occasional watering and deadheading to ensure constant flowering. Because they will grow in part shade, too, they're a great choice to replant in those hard-to-reach gardens where other flowers might fail. They also keep the weeds at bay, making maintenance less frequent.

Adding Bellflowers to Landscape Designs

Since bellflowers come in various species and cultivars, the possibilities for using them in landscaping are endless. Dwarf ones, such as Carpathian bellflowers, make good border plants or bed trellises; taller ones, such as clustered bellflowers, are good background plants or trellises. Their texture and color complement other garden favorites, such as roses, daisies, and ornamental grasses.

They're easy to grow and tolerant of garden styles, so you can create stunning pot displays, basket displays, or even ground cover. Pick the right species for your climate and garden, and you'll get an attractive, harmonious effect. Because they are timeless, bellflowers will continue to grace every backyard for many years, as well as gardens and people who enjoy visiting.

Bare Root Plants
Planting bare-root perennials is best in any season if they are dormant; we only sell dormant plants. Planting them year-round is also excellent if you can get dormant perennials. When your bare-root perennials arrive, soak the roots in water for a few hours to rehydrate them. Lant by digging a hole wide enough to spread the roots comfortably and deep enough to place the top portion crown (where the roots meet the stem) at or slightly above ground level. Position the plant in the hole, backfill with native soil, and gently firm the soil around the roots—water well after planting to settle the soil around the plant and eliminate air. Apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch to keep weeds at bay and moisture locked in, keeping the mulch away from the crown. Irrigate plants regularly during the first few weeks of drought; never water in full sun, and water late in the evenings to ensure the roots are established well. Fertilize sparingly in the first year, using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in subsequent years as needed.
