The Trumpet Vines (Campsis radicans) are an extraordinary choice to add visual interest to the garden and landscape. Famous for tubular, brilliantly colored flowers and large leaves, these vigorous climbers are ideal for setting a dramatic scene on a trellis, fence, or arbor. They are easy to manage and provide bright flowers popular with gardeners and pollinators.

Planting & Care of Trumpet Vines

Trumpet Vines are incredibly simple to plant and do well in all soils, from full sun to partial shade. Plant in a hole with soil twice as big as the root ball and water. These vines need very little maintenance once they are established. They tolerate drought and insects, with little more than occasional pruning to manage their growth and maintain their form.

Seasonal Blooms and Color Changes of Campsis Radicans

These vines produce trumpet-shaped orange-red flower clusters from midsummer through early fall. The flowers bring in the hummingbirds and butterflies that make your garden bustling. Once bloomed, the plant develops seed pods that continue into winter for further seasonal interest. Deep green foliage provides a lush ground cover for the blossoms, turning golden in fall.

Shape and Longevity of Trumpet Vines

Trumpet Vines are aggressive climbers that can grow to 20 to 40 feet if supported. Their thick, clumping stems are great for covering unsightly spots or creating vertical interest. These are perennials, meaning they come back year after year to bring life to your garden.

Life of Trumpet Vines at TN Nursery

TN Nursery sells fresh, healthy Trumpet Vines germinating quickly and flourishing in your yard. They have good growth and beautiful flowers, making these plants a permanent investment in both beauty and functionality. Place Trumpet Vines in your garden, and you'll have years of spectacular color and pollinator magnetism!

Planting bare-root perennials is best in any season if they are dormant; we only sell dormant plants. Planting them year-round is also excellent if you can get dormant perennials. When your bare-root perennials arrive, soak the roots in water for a few hours to rehydrate them. Lant by digging a hole wide enough to spread the roots comfortably and deep enough to place the top portion crown (where the roots meet the stem) at or slightly above ground level. Position the plant in the hole, backfill with native soil, and gently firm the soil around the roots—water well after planting to settle the soil around the plant and eliminate air. Apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch to keep weeds at bay and moisture locked in, keeping the mulch away from the crown. Irrigate plants regularly during the first few weeks of drought; never water in full sun, and water late in the evenings to ensure the roots are established well. Fertilize sparingly in the first year, using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in subsequent years as needed.

My trumpets arrived dormant but have sprouted leaves within a few days. Let's hope growth progresses satisfactorily! Very nice!
